Hello! My name is Kallyn. I started Surrendered Budget Plan as a resource to empower financial freedom through Christ. A lot of my own testimony is interwoven into the beginnings of SBP.
I've spent my entire adult life working in the financial industry, starting as a bank teller in 2007. In 2010, I became a Personal Banker and that is really where I was able to gather real-time data and tailor financial recommendations based on that specific data. Cut to 2018, where I landed the role that I had wanted since I began in this industry. Mortgage Loan Officer. I started to notice a pattern that whether someone was financially in a good spot or not had less to do with how much income they made, and more to do with how they spent the money they had earned. All of this knowledge in the financial industry, and it still didn't change my own spending habits. Because I was living for the world at the time. I still very much cared what people thought of me, and wanted to keep up with them. I didn't need to be the best, but I sure didn't want to be looked down on. My worth wasn't in Jesus. I wasn't born into a rich family, I have struggled financially under what felt like a heaping pile of impossible debt. I've had a 500-something credit score and medical collections. Overspending gave me the quick dopamine hit that only instant gratification can allow. Followed by guilt, shame, and regret. I took advantage of the highest points of my career, buying the things I felt matched what I wanted to project to the world about how I was keeping up with everyone around me.
In October of 2022, I embarked on my very first international mission trip to Nicaragua. God opened my eyes to a whole new perspective on life. It was beyond my control to not be CHANGED, MOVED, and LED. As the recognizable song Amazing Grace sings "I once was lost, but now I'm found. Was blind, but now I see". Man, oh man, those words ring true to what Jesus did with my life. The day before departure back to the United States---I got baptized. At the age of 35, in a beautiful lake with the Masaya volcano in the background.
All this to say, God doesn't used the qualified, he uses the willing. That's what it comes down to. What you struggle with, God will use for purpose. The things that you have tried to "do better" for years, was needing a simple SURRENDER to Him. Sometimes we say that we give something to God, and then try to still find a new way to control it ourselves.
Surrendered Budget Plan is just that. A plan to encourage you to intrust your finances to God. We're going to start with laying everything on the table. Dr. Phil's quote "You can't change what you don't acknowledge" really rings true here. We'll dig into what's coming in and what is going out. Where we can pivot in a few places to provide immediate relief. Surrendered Budget Plan doesn't look the same for everyone, because everyone's financial situation is its own individual fingerprint. We're going to give you a plan, with specific tasks based on where you're at. We'll be here every step of the way, making our own pivots when changes in your life require it. Our hope is that you'll continue to lean further into God, and His will for your finances. Naturally, that will mean saying goodbye to us here at Surrendered Budget Plan at some point. And we love that for you and your family.
